<p><strong>The <a href="http://www.flatbushartists.org/">Flatbush Artists</a> held their second annual studio open house this past weekend. I posted a few of my favorites below!</strong></p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-697" title="Levy-Plate 1" src="http://www.bksouthie.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/Levy-Plate-1-640x360.jpg" alt="Levy-Plate 1" width="640" height="360" /></p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-698" title="Levy-Plate 2" src="http://www.bksouthie.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/Levy-Plate-2-640x360.jpg" alt="Levy-Plate 2" width="640" height="360" /></p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-699" title="Levy-Plate 3" src="http://www.bksouthie.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/Levy-Plate-3-640x360.jpg" alt="Levy-Plate 3" width="640" height="360" /></p>
<p>At the southern end of the open house footprint was the glass studio of Fran Levy. Pictured above are sushi plates. Sushi plates! I used to work as a junk mailer for a company that sold &#8220;collector&#8221; plates. Fran&#8217;s work is far more attractive, and they can be used as actual plates as well!</p>
<p><span id="more-686"></span></p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-695" title="Levy-Bottle" src="http://www.bksouthie.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/Levy-Bottle-640x360.jpg" alt="Levy-Bottle" width="640" height="360" /></p>
<p>This is a flattened mini-bottle of vodka. Suck it, Absolut.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-687" title="Levy-Tools" src="http://www.bksouthie.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/Levy-Tools-640x360.jpg" alt="Levy-Tools" width="640" height="360" /></p>
<p>Some of the tools of the trade &#8211; ground glass, a tea strainer, dental tools.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-696" title="Levy-Kiln" src="http://www.bksouthie.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/Levy-Kiln-640x360.jpg" alt="Levy-Kiln" width="640" height="360" /></p>
<p>And a kiln that makes Consolidated Edison a buck an hour.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-688" title="Carroll-1" src="http://www.bksouthie.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/Carroll-1-640x360.jpg" alt="Carroll-1" width="640" height="360" /></p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-689" title="Carroll-2" src="http://www.bksouthie.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/Carroll-2-640x360.jpg" alt="Carroll-2" width="640" height="360" /></p>
<p>These two pieces were on display in the gallery of Kris Waldherr near the Newkirk Plaza Q-train station. They are the work of Kristina Carroll &#8211; an artist I met two-and-a-half years ago at the Atlantic Avenue Artwalk. She was an assistant to Donato Giancola, who, more than scraping by with a day job to support his expensive art habit, has turned it into a well paying gig. This is the first time I had seen any of Kristina&#8217;s paintings, and all I have to say is&#8230; damn, they&#8217;re good.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-690" title="Dias-Levine-Lashley-1" src="http://www.bksouthie.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/Dias-Levine-Lashley-1-640x360.jpg" alt="Dias-Levine-Lashley-1" width="640" height="360" /></p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-691" title="Dias-Levine-Lashley-2" src="http://www.bksouthie.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/Dias-Levine-Lashley-2-640x360.jpg" alt="Dias-Levine-Lashley-2" width="640" height="360" /></p>
<p>These are by Kathy Levine &#8211; these are photos on cast sculptures and jewelry. (I did her studiomates <a href="http://www.flatbushartists.org/JessicaDias.htm">Jessica Dias</a> and <a href="http://www.flatbushartists.org/LebasiLashley.htm">Lebasi Lashley</a> a tremendous disservice by not getting any photos of their works &#8211; they totally rocked and I wish I had something of theirs to put here.)</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-694" title="Hagan-Treimanis-2" src="http://www.bksouthie.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/Hagan-Treimanis-2-640x360.jpg" alt="Hagan-Treimanis-2" width="640" height="360" /></p>
<p>Sculpted wooden pendants by Zane Treimanis.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-693" title="Hagan-Treimanis-1" src="http://www.bksouthie.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/Hagan-Treimanis-1-640x360.jpg" alt="Hagan-Treimanis-1" width="640" height="360" /></p>
<p>On display in the same location, this painting by Tom Hagan reminds me of a painting that my grandmother had on display in her home, both in terms of the painting style and the backwoods setting.</p>
<p>That&#8217;s all the art I have for now. Like I said last week &#8211; I&#8217;m glad to see this thing is still going!</p>
