At the start of 2008, an old Childs Restaurant building on the corner of 18th Avenue and 68th Street was razed to make way for a new Walgreens and Commerce Bank. The Walgreens went up and opened before I even realized what was happening. The Commerce has been much slower – so slow, it’s not even Commerce Bank anymore. They were all turned into TD Banks last November.
Well, this branch of the Toronto Dominion is almost ready. Complete with…
…the Penny Arcade, the famous (and free) coin counter of the Commerce/TD franchise. You know the drill, right? You bring in your coins, guess how much money you have, and pour the coins in. If you are within a dollar of the actual amount, you get at TOTALLY AWESOME FREE GIFT! (OK, usually a pen that says TD Bank.) And of course you get the paper bills in exchange for your coins, without paying 9% like you would with Coinstar.
This day comes near and not a moment too soon. I stopped taking my change jar to the branch downtown months ago, and now that cup seriously runneth over with pocket change. Let’s go, 18th Avenue TD Bank!

(But that Penny Arcade is still going to be awesome!)
