The NY Aviators extended their winning streak to eight games by notching victories in three consecutive nights. The Aviators have improved their record to 19-12-2 and remains solidly in third place in FHL play.

New York Aviators 8, Rome Frenzy 1 - Matt Puntureri lead the way offensively with a season high seven points, which included a hat trick, and Jesse Felten chipped in with six points and a hat trick of his own. The Aviators exploded for a team high five first period goals. Mike Thomson also scored on a second period breakaway shot in his last game before being called up by the Wheeling Nailers.  Goaltender Pete Dundovich stopped 44 of the Frenzy’s 45 shots to pick up his 4th win of the season.

New York Aviators 3, Danbury Whalers 2 (OT) - John Goffredo netted the game winning goal just 25 seconds into overtime by putting home the one timer in the slot from Matt Puntureri. Puntureri also scored – his 22nd tally of the year – along with Jesse Felten. The Whalers game back from one-goal deficits twice to force overtime. Both teams put 33 shots on goal.

New York Aviators 4, Cape Cod Barons 1 - New York jumped to an early 1-0 lead after Chris Holmes potted his 11th of the season 3:28 into the first period.  Holmes put home Angelo Serse’s pass in front to get the A’s on the board.  Jesse Felten continued his goal scoring streak shortly after on his 14th of the year at the 6:32 mark. Nick Grove and John Goffredo would also score, and Kevin Druce made 21 saves. The Aviators put 36 shots on Barons goalie Chris Testa.

Transactions: Forward Mike Thomson (12 goals, 23 assists) called up to the Wheeling Nailers (East Coast Hockey League).

The New York Aviators won games this past weekend over the Federal Hockey League’s first and second place teams to improve their record to 16-12-2.

Sunday’s win over the first-place Akwesasne Warrior’s was the Aviator’s fifth straight, powered by an offensive onslaught from Jesse Felten (3 goals, 3 assists), Matthew Puntureri (1 goal, 4 assists), and Mike Thomson (1 goal, 3 assists).

Angelo Serse tallied two goals and Kevin Druce stopped 37 shots to lead the Aviator’s to a 4-3 victory over the second-place 1000 Islands Privateers on Saturday night. Andrew Scampoli also scored, and Chris Holmes added a shorthanded goal and an assist.

With these two wins, the Aviators have collected 34 points and remain in third place in League standings, and move to 11-1-1 on the season on home ice.

Transactions: Defenseman David Inman became the first Aviators player to be called up to the East Coast Hockey League, going to the Elmira Jackals after scoring 5 goals and 8 assists in 25 games with the A’s.

Minor league hockey comes back to Brooklyn this week! The New York Aviators, already six games into their second season, open up their 30-game home schedule this Friday night at the Aviator Sports & Events Center at Floyd Bennett Field.

The Aviators begin their second season in the brand-new six-team Federal Hockey League – made up of three other teams in New York State, one in Connecticut, and one on the Canadian side of the Mohawk Nation of Akwesasne. The FHL joins six other North American minor ice hockey leagues. Unlike the more established American Hockey League and East Coast Hockey League, no FHL team has an affiliate agreement with an NHL franchise, so the NY Aviators bring in most of their players from junior- and college-level hockey.
