This pic was taken from the stairs that lead up to the Manhattan Bound platform from Avenue M. I really like the cornice on this house. The flags help me visualize being on a beach in PR instead of fighting the snow, rain and ice in NY. Puerto Rico, ho!
Last Wednesday morning, three days after the start of the blizzard, a Sanitation plow finally started to work it’s way down this Bensonhurst side street.
I should have known Sunday morning – a friend of mine told me she was on her way to Queens to ride the vintage train. “Prepare to be disappointed” I warned her – the MTA needs a day to fully prepare for a winter storm, and when they put that plan in action, I can assure you vintage train service will be the first to go.

The National Weather Service states a “heat wave” is three consecutive days of 90+ degree temperatures. Tough to remember a day that has not hit 90 in July 2010. The temperature has hit triple-digits as well. Records have been broken in New York City, pools have been overcrowded, beaches flocked to, air conditioners burned out, etc. So what have you done to keep cool this burning hot summer????

Which is not to say you would like getting caught in the middle of a thunderstorm, or that you should go surfing off Rockaway Beach (a note to those so inclined: rescue helicopters cost taxpayer money, please don’t spend any of mine).
What it does mean is that it should not become a Category 1 hurricane as it passes by, and it should do so a considerable distance away from us.
