Seen In..., Sunset Park

Unless you work at the Sanitation depot, chances are you don’t get to see this side of the Sunset Park waterfront very often. Photo credit: Brian Hedden

Today my seven-year-old son and I checked on the progress of the new Luna park, set to open this Saturday. On our way to the construction, we rode the Tilt-A-Whirl, and got our only good–if tilted and whirly–view. Luna Park’s main attractions are set rather firmly (very firmly I hope) in a six-foot deep pit, of dirt. There were also mounds of dirt.
Then we walked around to the east. I had little hope of getting some good images, because they spent so much money on site protection. Luckily, a door happened to be open.
My son and I walked around to the north side and stumbled upon a man in an orange vest who seemed to have some authority. He assured us the rides would be ready for the crushing crowds this Saturday morning. I wonder if they will have the concrete guys working day and night. How long will it take before someone believes a mobster is set in the concrete in Luna Park?
We had a real sign of hope as we were leaving. At least this looks ready. Whatever it is.

I hate to be the wet blanket here, but if Luna Park is supposed to open in 19 days, shouldn’t it be a little further along than that?
