This summer has been great for the beach, boardwalk, shows, contests, events and all things grand that attracts crowds of people to Coney Island.  However, there has been murder, stabbings, robbery, sexual assault, violence, etc as well which has residents on edge. Because of this the Guardian Angels are out and about between Stillwell Avenue and Sea Gate. As summer comes to an unfortunate end…hopefully unnecessary violence will as well.

To be perfectly honest, I do not feel safe there at night. I remember going to a Cyclones’ game a few years back, and after the game let out, I walked with friends along the boardwalk, and there were definitely alot of riff-raff mingling among the crowds of people. There were a few cops there as well, but they seemed intent on keeping a low profile, turning a blind eye to the roving packs – also out that night, obviously searching out the unsuspecting. Despite what I may have seen on that one particular evening, I think that before anyone is going to invest money and time in the revitalization of Coney Island, this matter of crime, and also of perception is going to have to be cleared up.

they dont call it “crooklyn” for nothing…..
The economy is in the shitter, the state’s broke, less 5-0 on the streetz, what do you expect? I got jumped by a bunch of midgets a couple of weeks ago..Those lil punks have been going after others from what I heard.. ..Geez what were they smokin? Or maybe they weren’t. Maybe they should legalize the MJ so more people would be calm and peaceful? Till then, best what yer back……

It’s simple, start carrying protection. The way these losers will stop this sh*t is if they pick the wrong person to mess with. Coney Island is a nice place and I never had any problems at night when I was in that part of town. Heck, I lived in Washington Heights and being a professional white guy not once did anyone mess with me for three years. Just mind your business and move on.
