Brooklyn baseball originally began in 1883. Teams were known as the Brooklyn Atlantics, Bridegrooms, Grooms, Superbas, Robins, and Trolley Dodgers before officially becoming the Dodgers in the 1930s. In Brooklyn, the Dodgers played at Ebbets Field located in the Flatbush section on Bedford Avenue. Jackie Robinson became the first African American to play Major League Baseball. He played his first game on April 15, 1947, for the Brooklyn Dodgers… the team won only one World Series which came in 1955.  Walter O’Malley had acquired majority ownership of the Dodgers in 1950 and wanted to build a new stadium in Brooklyn. New York politicians refused to let him build the Brooklyn stadium he wanted. The “REAL” Dodgers played their final game in Brooklyn on September 24, 1957…soon after and maybe to this day people in Brooklyn believe the 3 most evil men on earth were Stalin, Hitler and Walter O’Malley. So who do people in Brooklyn root for….Yankees or Mets? Mets “fans” say it’s one or the other…not both!! So I journeyed out to see each team’s new ball park over the last 14 months… May 2009 Yankee Stadium- AJ Burnett walks a batter in the first inning…the Yankee fans panic “Oh how could he walk him (as if the season was over).. too much passion? May 2009 Citi (bankrupt) Field.. Mets fans are constantly watching the scoreboard..hoping the Yankees are losing .. hello you paid money to watch a scoreboard not the game?..Yankee Stadium late season vs. Boston … ah again every pitch is life or death…Citi Field late season vs. hated Atlanta…one Mets fan yells “Yankees won’t win the World Series…will be swept by Angels in the first round !!” Well, i didnt pee’d or puked on..unlike Philly! Are there any Mets fans or Anti-Yankees fans in Queens? Subway Series 2010, I hung out with some Mets “fans”…ahhh the season is complete we beat the Yankees 2 out of 3 !!! Ya sure beats winning only 1 World Series since Watergate!

do agree with the Walter o’malley-triad of evil designation. Bklyn to LA-Dodgers, shat was a shitty move per anecdotes i have heard from older relatives of mine and old timers from back in the dayl. I think its great that the Nets are moving in…Its a good move in many different ways..

I didn’t know what to think of Citi-field when I first saw it.
Yankee stadium is Yankee stadium….it feels like an airport when
you walk around inside it. But I thought the Mets stadium looked
weird……then it sort of grew on me and I like it. It reminds me
of old photos of Ebbets field…..it’s actually a creative look.

Ebbets field should have been taken over by the NYC parks dept,
and left for HS sports, youth activities, concerts, etc..and still be in existence today.

The Yankee fans are passionate about the team. The ownership has always wanted to win. I don’t care for the Mets, because of it’s fan base and ownership. I believe fans of Mets don’t like the Yankees because they actually win.

Actually, Brooklyn baseball began in the 1850s with the Eckfords, Excelsiors and the Atlantics. And in 1877 the Hartford National League club moved to Brooklyn for one season, becoming the Brooklyn Hartfords.

Here’s an interesting site on the history of Brooklyn baseball.
